SFI 2050 Challenge funding: Improving electrolyser design for green hydrogen production.

As Ireland transitions towards sustainable energy, hydrogen is set to play a significant role in the future energy supply chain. However, projected quantities of hydrogen production will require significant improvement in electrolyser technology deployment, scale, and cost to be a competitive solution.
NCPST PI, Rob O’Connor, as part of the H2Glas team, will examine development of a prototype low-cost electrolyser capable of producing green hydrogen using sustainable catalysts, intelligent cell design, and inexpensive materials. The project represents a convergence of emerging and established concepts from various fields, including synthetic chemistry, electrocatalysis, surface science, analysis, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing technology.
